What Every Man Looks For - Ryan's Version

I was reading through Thomas Merton's thoughts on this today and was honestly amazed at the truth of what he said. It was when I stopped trying to use people to define me, and let go of my own needs to be "recognized" that God brought me into myself and showed me who I was by using other people (my beloved was a main one).

I personally think of his defintion of "salvation" as real Life. Because it may seem as if man is looking to be "saved," when in fact man desires to have what we lost, our lives that are solely in our Father.

It was through my beloved that He showed me how much I love. It has been through other men that he has shown me what I was (time with Wade and Bill). It has been through the long phone conversations that I have listened to men who desire to have more in this life, and I desire to offer them what is already available to them. Life in God, from God, because of God.

We must learn that unless God has brought us into the Spiritual world, and given us our "new birth" in the Spiritual, we are dead in the spirit, and cannot see beyond the physical world in which we are enslaved to experience only through our ability to see, taste, touch, feel and smell.

We have to learn to let go. We have to "die" to what we think, and allow Him to shape our lives, minds, hearts, and who we are. "What you lose, is what you will gain." If you lose everything, you will soon learn that you have gained everything by losing everything.

More to come.
