A Need for being Tribal
Amanda and I went to a doctor appointment for her, and then we went to one of our favorite spots in downtown Boulder to sit and listen to the water roll by over the rocks of South Boulder Creek. While we were sitting there, there was a group of "mentally disabled" people who walked by with the people who volunteer with them.
As Amanda and I started talking about how we [Western Societies] compartmentalize everything and how much we enjoy being around these individuals and especially their perspectives on life.
Why do we put people who are "handicapped" in special institutions and say it is the BEST thing for them? Is that why God gave them to the family that He did? And as Bob and I spoke of yesterday, it is obvious that Satan causes many things to happen, but why do we again run from something (a trial or hardship) that will teach us so much about ourselves and life?
I am not saying that there is a better way for the world (or the Western worldview and Capitalistic pursuit of money) to do with these people. It is better for them to be away from greedy and bastards within their own families who do not truly want them around, but that does not mean it is BEST for them.
What would be best? What would be best is for people to live within communities of people who knew each other and did not worry about having a "handicapped" person around, because all within the community would take care of that individual as a "person" not a project or problem. It truly sets me beside myself as I think that people believe "democracy" or the way this country works (capitalistic view of money and when we have enough, we are then happy) is the best thing. Even though more and more people continually are isolated into these little worlds that we like to keep them in, so that they do not "bother" us or get in the way of the pursuit of our own false selves, the greedy bastard most of us have.
What is the answer? I can only see one community of people who truly should be able to allow God to provide for blessings such as those who are handicapped and see things differently than us. How will God build it? I guess this is the beginning of something. What that is? Well, I do not know, but my heart cries out that the Father would restore what we have lost in our world of compartmentalizations and isolation of ourselves, that He gave to the first believers and disciples of Himself after the ascension of His Son, our Brother.
